Sussex Borough was settled by Peter Decker in approximately 1742.  It was incorporated from Wantage Township as the Borough of Deckertown on October 15, 1891.  The name was changed to Sussex Borough on March 2, 1902.

ROUTE 23 REALIGNMENT
LEAF & BRUSH REMOVAL POLICY

Sussex Borough DPW will remove leaf and brush from Borough properties every Monday from April 1st until November 30th. Materials for pick up should be placed curb side the night before scheduled removal. All leaves and clippings must be placed in brown paper bags. NO plastic bags will be accepted. Each property address can receive ten free leaf bags at the Municipal Building between the hours of 8:30am and 4:30pm. Brush shall be securely and properly tied into bundles to prevent spilling or scattering. The bundles shall be of a size and weight to permit ease of handling by one person and shall be packaged or otherwise assembled in quantities weighing not more than 40 pounds.

BULKY WASTE COLLECTION

The Borough of Sussex will conduct a residential bulky waste pickup program
May 7th & 8th, 2014.

Registration with the Borough Clerk is required.  Registration forms may be obtained from the Borough Hall, 2 Main Street, Sussex, NJ

A minimum fee of $50 ($40 for senior citizens, 60 years of age of older) per household includes the pickup of up to 750 pounds of acceptable material including one large appliance (refrigerator, stove, etc.) – OR – piece of furniture (sofa, dresser, etc).  Each additional large appliance/piece of furniture is an additional $15.  Separate fees for tires apply.
